It was designated originally Tzibanche, “writing in wood”, from a wood lintel located in the Structure VII that had a hieroglyphic inscription, it is a first level site, it is starting from the early classic, that Dzibanché is converted into a big city and it is also the beginning of the development of the huge building projects that can be seen nowadays.

The acropolis of the Kinichna complex pertains to this period, Building 1 or Owl´s Temple and the first building stage of the Building 11 or Temple of the Cormorants, just to mention the most importan ones.
Formed by four big groups, Kinichná, Tutil, Lamai and Dzibanché, united amongst them by sacbes (Nalda and Campaña 1998).
