CHICANNA
The name of the site can be translated as “The house of the serpent´s mouth: chi “mouth” can, “serpent” and ná, “house”. The site is a good example of the fusion of two important mayan architectural styles. In Chicanna you can observe Chenes style buildings, these are characterized by buildings in which the facade is richly adorned by elements that the specialists called integral zoomorphic facade and that represents Itzmaná, the main deity of the mayan pantheon, with open fauces. There are also structures that pertain to the Bec river style, and its protruding elements are two lateral towers that flanked a low and elongated building.
